North Port - Brechin

An auctioneer's guide to North Port-Brechin, Townhead's single malt distillery which closed in 1983.

North Port, or Brechin, was established in 1820 in the eastern Highlands under the name Townhead. The name was changed to Brechin in 1832, then to North Port in 1839. Throughout its lifetime, the majority of its output went into blends. The distillery was closed in 1983 but the first official bottlings were not released until it was included in Diageo's Rare Malts Selection in the mid 1990s.
