A bottle of Ardmore peated Highland single malt, matured first in traditional whisky barrels and finished in small quarter casks, a cask type popular in the 19th century.
Ardmore was founded in 1898 by William Teacher's son Adam, who decided that the family needed its own malt whisky distillery. It has been an important component in the Teacher's blend since the beginning, meaning it has remained understated as a single malt, with few official bottlings released. Aside from being, unusually, a peated Highland malt, it was also one of the last distilleries to switch from coal-fired to steam-heated stills.
