Balblair

An auctioneer's guide to Balblair Distillery

Balblair distillery was built in 1790 by the Ross family, who would run the distillery for the next 100 years. In 1872 production was shifted to a new site to take advantage of the newly built railway between Wick and Inverness. The distillery closed in 1911 and was commandeered by the military during World War II, after which it resumed production. In the 1990s Balblair was acquired by Inver House and from 2007 only vintage malts were released, the first of which were 1979, 1989 and 1997.
