A miniature bottle of Der Lachs Goldwasser from Germany. This was produced and bottled by Spirits & Liquor Distillers of Isaac Wed-Ling Wwe & Eydam Dirck Hekker. We estimate was bottled in the 1960s.
Der Lachs was founded in Danzig (Gdansk) in 1598 by Ambrosius Vermeulen, the inventor of Goldwasser, a liqueur flavoured with roots and herbs and noted for the inclusion of gold flakes in the bottle. In the 16th century, alchemy was at its high point and gold was deemed to have several health benefits. Der Lachs ('The Salmon') opened another factory in Berlin in 1922, and by 1945 had ceased production in Danzig when the city became part of Poland.
This bottle does not state 'Goldwasser' on the label, but the bottle contains gold flakes. We suspect it was produced at a time when Der Lachs was synonymous with Goldwasser.
Please see images for fill level and label condition. Note damage to the labels and wear to the capsule.
Note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. Older bottles often contain small amounts of sediment. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
