This Japanese whisky comes from the now-defunct Hanyu distillery, which stopped distilling in 2000 and was dismantled in 2004. At the time Ichiro Akuto, the grandson of the founders of Hanyu distillery, decided to purchase the remaining stock and bottle it as the Cards series – a set of limited-edition bottlings, each named after one of the cards in a standard deck.
Hanyu King of Diamonds was first matured in a hogshead before transferring to an American oak sherry butt.
Bottle 112 of 555.
