Description

This lot contains the entire Highland Park Valhalla Collection:

A bottle of Highland Park Thor 16 Year Old. This is the first release, named after Thor, the Norse God of thunder, defender of mankind, and creator of Orkney's Yesnaby cliffs. One of 23000 bottles.

A bottle of Highland Park Loki 15 Year Old. This is the second release, named after Loki, a figure from Norse mythology. The son of two giants, he revels in mischief and treachery and constantly challenges the gods. One of 21000 bottles.

A bottle of Highland Park Freya 15 Year Old. This is the third release, named after Freya, the Norse Goddess of love and fertility. One of 19000 bottles.

A bottle of Highland Park Odin 16 Year Old. This is the fourth and final release, named after Odin, father of the Norse Gods and ruler of Asgard. One of 17000 bottles.

The history of Highland Park distillery is shrouded in mystery. It was built on the remote island of Orkney in 1798 by farmer David Robertson, or the site of an old bothy of the priest turned whisky smuggler Magnus Eunson.

The first single malts were released in the 1970s and the distillery has become known for its use of Orcadian peat to dry the barley (lighter than mainland or Islay peat) and sherry casks for maturation. Recent years have seen Highland Park pay homage to its island heritage, with releases named after local landmarks and Norse gods.
