A bottle of Chartreuse yellow liqueur from France. We estimate this was bottled between 1941 and 1951.
The label is a reproduction of those used in the 19th century and was created to celebrate the first anniversary of the Carthusian monks returning to Chartreuse in June 1940.
Chartreuse has been produced by Carthusian monks in France since 1737. In the early 20th century, the monastery and distillery were nationalised by the French government. The monks, unwilling to give up their secret recipe, moved production to Tarragona, Spain. They later returned home and today all Chartreuse is produced in France.

Note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. Older bottles often contain small amounts of sediment.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
