A bottle of green Chartreuse liqueur bearing the embossed coat of arms known as 'El Gruño'. This was bottled in Voiron, France, we estimate in 1965 to 1966.
This type of bottle was produced for a short period. The embossed coat of arms was prone to breakage during transport.
Chartreuse has been produced by Carthusian monks in France since 1737. In the early 20th century, the monastery and distillery were nationalised by the French government. The monks, unwilling to give up their secret recipe, moved production to Tarragona, Spain. They later returned home and today all Chartreuse is produced in France.
