Bread Wine is an old Russian term for spirits produced from grains in small copper pot stills. Natural flavourings such as caraway, dill, and garlic were used to accompany different dishes. The term fell out of use in the 19th century when Czar Alexander III purchased 300 rectification towers for producing vodka, and declared all other spirits illegal. Polugar was created by Russian vodka historian Boris Rodionov using traditional methods, based on old recipe books and menus.
