A bottle of Lem Motlow's Tennessee Sour Mash Whiskey, produced at Jack Daniel distillery. This bottle from 1989 features a 'twelve months old' age statement.
Lemuel Motlow inherited Jasper 'Jack' Daniel's distillery in 1911 and remained its proprietor until he died in 1947. It was he who was instrumental in building the Jack Daniel's brand.
Lem Motlow's Tennessee Sour Mash was first released in 1939, shortly after State prohibition ended...and 15 years after Motlow had drunkenly killed a man on a train (his version of events was accepted by the jury and he was acquitted of murder).
Production of Lem Motlow's Tennessee Sour Mash stopped between 1942 and 1946 for the war effort, and it took until 1947 for production to resume, it was finally discontinued in 1986 when sales had dwindled.
