Description

A bottle of yellow Chartreuse liqueur. This was produced in Tarragona, Spain, we estimate in 1912 to 1913.

Chartreuse has been produced by Carthusian monks in France since 1737. In the early 20th century, the monastery and distillery were nationalised by the French government. The monks, unwilling to give up their secret recipe, moved production to Tarragona, Spain. They later returned home and today all Chartreuse is produced in France.

Condition

Please see images for fill level and label condition. Note damage to the labels. The wax seal has mostly worn away, but some wax remains around the glass and on top of the cork. There is some sticky residue on the top of the bottle, likely caused by seepage around the cork.

Note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing.

This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
