Description

A bottle of Ban Poitin from Ireland.

Poitín is known as the original Irish spirit and can be made from cereals, grain, whey, sugar beet, molasses and potatoes. Although it was outlawed in 1661, production continued in Ireland and the growing Irish diaspora in the 19th century. In 2008, Irish Poitín was accorded Geographical Indicative Status by the EU Council and Parliament.
