' A remarkably deep garnet colour with deep tawny rim. The nose is muffled at first with notes of mulberry, plum, tobacco and espresso. It improves after 20 minutes in the glass, gaining delineation and lift, that espresso note dominating the aromatics. The palate is tannic, muscular and powerful, closed at first but blossoming after 1/2 hour. Silky smooth texture, utterly harmonious with mulberry, leather and tobacco. I sublime ’61, not quite up there with Palmer or Latour, but not far behind either. Opening a bottle now, I recommend two hours of decanting. Drinking now, but a well-stored bottle could last another 10, 20 years. Tasted December 2006.' 98/100 Robert Parker The Wine Advocate December 2006.

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
