A 32cl bottle of Fernet Pastene from Italy. This was distributed in the United States by Pastene & Co. Inc. We estimate this was bottled in the 1940s to 1950s.
The label reads:
Pastene Fernet is a special medicinal preparation manufactured according to our own formula. It is a stimulant to the appetite and a laxative.
Active Ingredients: Aloes, extractions from gentian, rhubarb, yellow cinchona bark, white agaric, sweet marjoram, myrhh, scammony, chamomile and peppermint leaves.
Dose: For adults, a tablespoonful; for children, a teaspoonful. It may be taken in water, coffee or straight.
Frequent or continued use may result in the establishment of a laxative habit.
Not to be taken when use of a laxative might prove harmful, such as in the case of appendicitis.
