To mark Earth Day on 22 April 2021, Place of the Way challenged 16 of the world’s best bartenders to create a selection of wildlife-inspired cocktails. Each cocktail represents one of the world’s most endangered animals and all proceeds will go to the World Wildlife Fund, a leading conservation organisation with a mission to create a world where people and wildlife can thrive together.
A 20cl bottle of Tiger Rum Punch, made with Equiano Rum (1st batch), Appleton Hearts 1994, 1995 and 1999, light muscovado sugar, Indian spice, chocolate bitters and fresh lime oil.
Global Rum Ambassador Ian Burrell had this to say of his creation:
'Three rare rums, blended with the first batch of Equiano Rum…in respect to a rare animal. The Tiger is the most recognisable of the big cats, but is rarely seen unless in captivity. Similarly, the Appleton Estate Hearts Collection, was made in very limited quantities, thus has become extremely rare. An elegant 'beast', both the Tiger and the Rums ooze royalty, prestige and a little bite. I have used the rum within a punch like cocktail, made the classic 'old fashioned' way of making drinks. Soft brown muscovado sugar with a hint of Indian spices, such as cloves, cardamom & chili are added to the rum and one ice cube, then stirred until dissolved. The oils from the zest of two lime peels are added with two dashes of chocolate bitters. Five ingredients (Citrus, Sugar, Rum, Water & Spice), for the number 5 which in Hindi, the most spoken language in India, is PUNCH. Coincidentally, India is the home for most of the last remaining Tigers in the wild.'
