To mark Earth Day on 22 April 2021, Place of the Way challenged 16 of the world’s best bartenders to create a selection of wildlife-inspired cocktails. Each cocktail represents one of the world’s most endangered animals and all proceeds will go to the World Wildlife Fund, a leading conservation organisation with a mission to create a world where people and wildlife can thrive together.

Description

A 30cl bottle of Have a Heart, a cocktail made with gin, arrak, Indian and African spices and pomegranate juice.

Jason-Candid Knusel of Nomad Bar had this to say of his creation: 'The magnificent elephant is under threat; around 55 African elephants are killed a day for their tusks, meat and skin - mainly because of human actions due the illegal demand of ivory! In Asia, elephants have disappeared from approximately 85% of their historic range in the past century.

If things don’t change, we will soon be talking about elephants the same way we are talking about mammoths - they used to be impressive, beautiful and the largest land animal we ever had. I believe the message is clear.

'Have A Heart' is a forgotten vintage cocktail from 1934, which reminds a classic punch, combining Gin, Arrak, citrus, Indian and African spices and the juice of a fresh pomegranate.

In Greek mythology the pomegranate is known as the fruit of death, symbolising Adonis blood while modern surveys confirm that other cultures associate the red colour with joy, hope and love. Have a heart, share love, raise awareness and discourage brutality, especially towards elephants in Africa, India & South East Asia.'
