To mark Earth Day on 22 April 2021, Place of the Way challenged 16 of the world’s best bartenders to create a selection of wildlife-inspired cocktails. Each cocktail represents one of the world’s most endangered animals and all proceeds will go to the World Wildlife Fund, a leading conservation organisation with a mission to create a world where people and wildlife can thrive together.
A 50cl bottle of Save the Bear Cocktail, made by Marian Beke of The Gibson Bar.
Marian Beke had this to say of his creation: 'This cocktail is based on two cocktails: The Polar Bear (creme de cocoa liqueur and mint liqueur) and Alaskan cocktail (gin, Chartreuse and vermouth).
It highlights the decline in the polar bear population where sea ice caps are their primary habitat in order to hunt seals, which is melting away due to global warming. The impact is thinner polar bears, who would usually be able to sustain three cubs, but now maybe only two.
Not only that, but higher temperatures has resulted in higher exposure to disease and melting of dens to protect cubs.
The realities we don’t think about or see is a stark contrast to a world where we sometimes complain our drink is not cold enough.'
Here is a list of ingredients:
Weishorne Gin, Chartreuse enhanced with Mint, Del Professore Savoury Vermouth, Gibson Spiced Cocoa Liqueur, Electric Bitters, Sea Salt.
