Glen Ord distillery was build in 1838. It is the last remaining distillery in the Black Isle, a peninsula in the Scottish Highlands which was once a heartland of distillation, with both illicit and licenced distilleries operating in the area. It is one of the only distilleries which is self sufficient in its malt requirements (the others being Roseisle and Springbank), and produces malt for all of Diageo's northern operations. Glen Ord has been available as a single malt since the 1980s and has been bottled under many names, including Glenordie, Ordie, Ord, and Muir of Ord.
