A very old bottle of John Begg Blue Cap Scotch Whisky, bottled by John Begg Ltd. This is sealed with a driven cork with a metal capsule. We estimate this was bottled in the 1920s.
John Begg is best known as the founder of Royal Lochnagar distillery, built in 1845 and awarded a royal warrant by Queen Victoria following a visit in 1848. After John Begg's death in 1880, the business was managed by his son Henry. The company established a bottling and blending base in Glasgow in 1906 and began to export worldwide. John Begg Limited was acquired by John Dewar & Sons in 1916 and then passed to DCL, though it continued to trade under the John Begg Name.
Please see images for fill level and label condition. Please note, most of the label is missing. Note damage to the capsule.
Note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. Older bottles often contain small amounts of sediment. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
