A magnum bottle of 1996 Corton-Charlemagne from Louis Latour, picked from one of Burgundy's most celebrated hillside vineyards.
'Louis Latour's Corton Charlemagne is fabulous. Its deeply ripe and reveals minerals, pears, nuts and roasted peach smells. On the palate, it explodes with massive, mouth-coating and super-focused layers of gravel, stones, sweet white fruits and honeysuckle blossoms. Full-bodied, oily-textured, and dense, this wine has exquisite balance as well as a precise, pure, highly-defined and formidably long finish.' 93-95/100 Wine Advocate
Sometimes referred to as 'the Chablis of the Cote d'Or' for its ability to combine power and flesh with a purer, minerally edge more readily associated with wines from cooler, more northerly vineyards. Corton-Charlemagne is named after the Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne, who once owned the hill of Corton on which the vineyards now rest.
This lot comes from the temperature-controlled cellar of media businessman and wine enthusiast Lord Evgeny Lebedev, where it has been kept since purchase direct from UK importers.
