This lot contains two bottles of Pla Del Rei Côtes du Rousillon 2000 from Domaine Saint Luc.

'From a block of old Syrah vines with a small mixture of Carignan and Grenache, vinfied in tank and aged in Lithuanian oak (and, unfortunately, the only other of his wines I had opportunity to taste for this report), Montes’ late-released 2000 Cotes du Roussillon Pla del Rey superbly illustrates the excitement that surrounds the Roussillon region. Intense aromas of cassis, asphalt, licorice, sauteed mushrooms and smoked meat lead to a palate with surprising nuance, gentleness of touch and fascinating complexity and depth compared to what the sheer force and blatancy of aroma led me to expect. Still youthfully tannic as well as possessed of amazingly exuberant, juicy primary fruit, this finishes with a strikingly long meld of black tea, tar, black pepper, cassis, smoked meats, forest fungus, and bitter herbs. Lacking experience in the maturation of this wine, I can only express my surprise at its still-youthful personality and propose that one could safely follow it for at least 3-5 more years in bottle. 93/100' David Schildknecht, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Tasted 2007
