This bottle was donated by Charles Maxwell for the Distillers’ Livery Emergency Appeal in support of The Drinks Trust.
A bottle of Grand Vin de Château Latour from Pauillac from the massively tannic 1928 vintage.
'...it was, and still is, the star of the vintage. Like the 1870 Lafite, so dense, powerful and bitterly tannic that it was a full half-century before it was mellow enough to be enjoyed.' Michael Broadbent MW, who awarded both vintage and wine a maximum 5 stars. American critic Robert Parker awarded it a perfect 100 point score.
The owner describes the provenance of this wine thus: ' this came into my possession in 1992 when I acquired a business and it was in their cellar which was cool and damp and had been there for at least 20 years. My cellar is also cool and relatively damp and that is where it has been since'
Please see images for fill level and label condition. Note damage to the labels, parts of which are extremely fragile. We will pack with care, but cannot guarantee this will not deteriorate further in transit, and recommend collection where possible.

Note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. Older bottles often contain small amounts of sediment. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults.
