Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1959 Pauillac 75cl / 12%
A bottle of 1959 Château Mouton Rothschild from Bordeaux's Pauillac appellation, featuring a label by artist Richard Lippold (1915-2002). This was selected and shipped by Alexis Lichine, Chicago, New York.
Despite its market prices equalling that of Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Mouton Rothschild was excluded from the First Growth status under the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Baron Philippe de Rothschild called this a 'monstrous injustice', and some believe the Château was excluded as it had recently been purchased by an Englishman and was no longer under French ownership.
Please see images for fill level and label condition. Note wear and some damage to the labels and capsule.
Note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. Older bottles often contain small amounts of sediment. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
