Description

A miniature bottle of Old Vatted Highland Queen 10 Year Old Scotch Whisky, bottled by Macdonald & Muir. We estimate this was bottled in the 1930s to 1940s.

The label reads: The basis of this Whisky is the matured products of two of the finest Malt Distilleries in the Scottish Highlands, Glen Moray-Glenlivet and Glenmorangie of which we are the proprietors. It is therefore unchanging. Judiciously blended with these are selections from other famous Scotch Whisky Distilleries, chosen with a view to flavour, delicacy and above all Harmony. These facts are your guarantee of Consistently High Quality.

Please note, there is no size or ABV stated on the label.

This bottle is from a large collection of miniatures purchased by the seller at an auction in 1979. The collection is mainly comprised of blended Scotch whiskies and single malts bottled in the first half of the 20th century.

Macdonald & Muir was established in 1893 by Roderick Macdonald and Alexander Muir. Working out of Queen's Dock, Leith, the company named its flagship blend Highland Queen, as Mary Queen of Scots had landed at Leith Harbour when she returned to Scotland from France in 1561. The blend proved popular and was soon sold as far afield as Egypt, Scandinavia, South America and the Far East. After World War I, the company acquired several subsidiaries, notably Glen Moray-Glenlivet Distillery Co. and Glenmorangie Distillery Co., which the family firm owned until 2004.
