A miniature bottle of Finest Old Liqueur Whisky, sealed with a cork stopper. This was blended and bottled only by James Deuchar Ltd., Newcastle and Sunderland. We estimate this was bottled in the 1940s.
Please note, there is no size stated on the labels.
This bottle is from a large collection of miniatures purchased by the seller at an auction in 1979. The collection is mainly comprised of blended Scotch whiskies and single malts bottled in the first half of the 20th century.
James Deuchar was born in Guthrie, Scotland, in 1849 and moved to the north east of England as a young man. He began as a publican in Gateshead and over the coming decades purchased breweries and maltings across the north of England. The growth in popularity of Scottish pale ale led Deuchar to purchase Lochside brewery (later to become Lochside distillery) in 1900. By the time of his death in 1927, Deuchar had a portfolio of 150 public house supplied by his own breweries. The firm was taken over by Newcastle Breweries Ltd. in 1956.
