A pear-shaped bottle of Gilbey's Spey Royal Fine Old Scotch Whisky, distilled, blended and bottled by W & A Gilbey Limited. This bottle comes from a time when Gilbey's owned the Glen Spey distillery, so it may contain a fair amount of Glen Spey whisky. We estimate this was bottled in the early 1950s.
Please note, there is no size or ABV stated on the label, but this appears to be a 75cl bottle.
Spey Royal was launched following the takeover of James Catto & Co. by W & A Gilbey in 1916. The group, which owned Glen Spey, Knockando and Strathmill distilleries, eventually merged in 1962 with United Wine Traders to form International Distillers and Vintners (now Diageo).
Please see images for fill level and label condition. Note wear to the labels.
Note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. Older bottles often contain small amounts of sediment.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
