Description

A bottle of Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix. This was bottled for the German market.

In January 2010, four of Glenfiddich's warehouses collapsed under the weight of snow that had fallen over the winter. To mark this event in Glenfiddich's history, this whisky was created.

A one-off release, this bottling was produced from whiskies aged between 13 and 30 years in ex-bourbon and oloroso sherry casks, and bottled at 47.6% ABV.

Glenfiddich was built in 1886 near the River Fiddich by William Grant of Dufftown, who had left his position as manager of Mortlach distillery. The first spirit was distilled on Christmas Day 1887. William Grant was a talented distiller and caught the attention of Aberdeen blender and broker William Williams, who purchased the distillery’s entire output. Within 25 years, the family firm had 63 agencies internationally, providing them with its signature blend, Grant’s Standfast. Following a dispute over grain supply in the early 1960s, the Grant’s made the decision to promote Glenfiddich as a single malt. With the new triangular bottles that have now become a whisky icon, this was the first global malt brand, and Glenfiddich remains the world’s best-selling single malt Scotch whisky to this day. The company is still owned by the Grant family, now in its fifth generation, and has expanded to include three more malt distilleries (Balvenie, Kininvie and Aisla Bay), the Girvan grain plant, and other brands including Monkey Shoulder and Hendrick’s gin.
