A miniature bottle of The SS Politician 'Whisky Galore'. The story of this blend starts in 1941, when the SS Politician ran aground off Eriskay in the Outer Hebrides. On board were over 250000 bottles of Scotch whisky, which the Islanders wasted no time in liberating from the stricken vessel, scenes which inspired Sir Compton McKenzie's novel 'Whisky Galore'.
In October 1989, a company was formed to recover the sunken Scotch, and the salvage operation yielded a number of intact bottles. The contents were blended with stocks of Scotch malt and grain whiskies to produce a blend of unique character.
This was bottled for the US market, we estimate in the 1990s.
This lot comes from the extensive collection of a Merseyside collector who began his hobby with bottles bought for guests as digestifs at private dinner parties in the early 1970s. His interest led to him advertising in the UK national newspapers, and buying and selling bottles as far afield as Australia, America and Ireland, with his last significant addition being a collection he purchased from Stoke On Trent in 1984.
Please see images for fill level and label condition.
Note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. Older bottles often contain small amounts of sediment.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
