A bottle of Watson's No.10 Old Scotch whisky, produced by James Watson & Co. Ltd. This was bottled for the Italian market and imported by Samer, we estimate in the 1970s.
James Watson & Co was founded in 1815, before being acquired by Buchanan-Dewar and Walker in 1923. Following the merger with DCL in 1925, Watson's large stocks of whisky, which featured malt from distilleries including Parkmore, Pulteney and Ord, was shared out between DCL's larger holdings. Following this, Watson's began a long decline, though its blends, Barley Bree and No.10, remained available in small quantities until the 1980s.
