A bottle of Tuzemsky Rum from the Czech Republic. We estimate this was bottled in the 1990s.
Tuzemsky Rum is a spirit produced in the Czech Republic from potatoes or sugar beets and flavoured with additional rum essence. It is what is known as an 'Ersatz' product, meaning 'replacement' or 'substitute'. Since 2003, EU regulations stipulate that products labelled 'rum' must be made from sugar cane, so Tuzemsky Rum is now sold under names such as 'Tuzemák' or 'Tuzemský'.
