A bottle of Rheingau 1949 Steinberger Auslese German wine, bottled in 1951. Steinberg is a 32.4 hectares walled vineyard near Hattenheim in the Rheingau. The vineyard belongs to the government-owned Hessische Staatsweingüter (Hessian State Wineries) and is today planted entirely with Riesling, although no grape variety is mentioned on the label.
1949 is described by Michael Broadbent MW in Vintage Wine as 'A beautiful vintage. Perfectly balanced wines. *****'
