Description

A bottle of 1970 Château Montrose L Charmolüe, a second growth in the 1855 Classification, from the Saint-Estèphe appellation in Bordeaux. This is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, with the vines planted in a single solid block on gravel and iron-rich soil.

Michael Broadbent MW wrote in 1998 that 1970 was 'the sort of vintage to suit Montrose....massive, Latour-like, rich, mouthfilling but tough.' This wine featured in wine entrepreneur Stephen Spurrier's 'Judgement of Paris' tasting, in which it took fourth position (though was rated joint top by Spurrier himself).

Please note there is no size or ABV stated on the labels.
