A bottler of Gaelic Old Smuggler Brand blended Scotch whisky, The Gaelic Whisky. This was blended and bottled by The Stirling Bonding Co., Ltd for the US market. We estimate this was bottled in the 1940s, when the company belonged to Hiram Walker.
The history of Old Smuggler dates back to 1835 but Stirling Bonding Company eventually registered the trade name Old Smuggler in 1887.
In 1894 the Craigellachie-Glenlivet Distillery Co. acquired the Stirling Bonding Co. Then between 1890 and 1900 Peter Mackie took control of Craigellachie-Glenlivet and by 1930, Hiram Walker & Sons purchased a 60% share in the Stirling Bonding Company.
In 2006 Old Smuggler was a acquired by Gruppo Campari, who still produce it today.
