A pair of Royal Navy Rum flagons, still in their original wooden crate. We estimate these were bottled in the 1950s to 1960s.
The front panel has the following marking:
S/2
The top panel has the following markings:
R.A.S.C Sups (Royal Army Service Corps Supplies)
This Side Up
Glass With Care
Each side is marked:
1002 (left side only)
R.A.S.C Sups
The wax stamps that seal the flagons are embossed, but the detail is not clear. One of the stamps appears to be embossed with '53', but only the '3' is clear.
Please see images for fill level and label condition. The crate was sealed when it arrived at Whisky.Auction, though the metal straps had been cut by the owner to inspect the contents before submitting for auction. The nails fixing the metal straps to the top of the crate are a different colour to the others and appear to be newer.
We have removed these nails to inspect the contents, and they will be supplied with the lot. The flagons are side by side inside the crate, surrounded by sawdust.
For shipping, we will need to remove the flagons from the crate and ship individually due to the weight. To ship this item in one piece, we will need to use a small pallet which will incur additional charges. If the winning bidder intends to collect this lot, we will leave the flagons inside the crate as pictured.
These bottles do not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
