A bottle of Commanderie St John 1927, a sweet wine from Cyprus. The '1927' refers to the year the Solera system was started, rather than a particular vintage. The year was removed from the labels in the 1990s to avoid confusion with vintage wines. We estimate this was bottled in the 1970s to 1980s.
There is no ABV stated on the label.
Commandaria is an amber-coloured dessert wine from Cyprus, produced from the Xynisteri and Mavro grape varieties which are dried in the sun before fermentation. It has the distinction of being the oldest named wine still in production, with the name Commandaria dating back to the 12th century.
