A bottle of Grande Vieille Réserve 1858 Cognac, bottled for the wine cellars at Hôtel de Paris, Monte Carlo. We estimate this was bottled in the 1920s to 1930s.
The wine cellars at Hôtel de Paris were completed in 1874, and at the time were the largest hotel cellars in the world. During the Second World War, a wall was constructed to hide more than 20000 bottles from potential seizure. There is a chance that this Cognac was one of those hidden bottles. Sir Winston Churchill was invited to re-open the cellars at the end of the war, and an 1811 rum was opened for the occasion.
Please see images for fill level and label condition. Note damage to the label and wear to the wax seal.
