Description

A bottle of 1964 Grand Vin de Château Latour from Bordeaux's Pauillac appellation labelled for French wine merchant Nicolas.

Please note there is no ABV stated on the label.

'Vying with Petrus as the finest '64. A large number of notes, over 30, starting with a very attractive 'sweet fruit' cask sample in April 1965. Tasted or drunk on dozen occasions in the 1990s, all very good indeed, save for an oxidised bottle. If anything it goes to show what an immense difference bottle age can do to a top-class claret, the continuing evolution of the '64 Latour is the perfect example. It goes on and on gaining extra dimensions. On the last three occasions a marvellous mouthful, plump, perfectly balanced, rounded and sweet yet still with a tannic finish. Then a tasting in1998, losing its pristine colour. A bouquet of cedar and old oak (the tree not cask). Last tasted October 2000. 5 Stars'

Condition

Please see images for fill level and label condition. Note general wear.

Please note damage to the label and capsule.

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.

This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
