A bottle of 2004 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru from Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard.

'2004 is one of those vintages that confers elegance and refinement even on those terroirs where typically, those attributes are often in short supply. Such is the case here as this is unusually pure, elegant and transparent and while this is certainly bigger, richer and more powerful than any of the preceding wines, there is both subtlety and sophistication here and if this can develop its usual level of depth and complexity, it could merit a higher score still. This has grand cru weight, power and length and it will be interesting to see how it develops with time in bottle as this is a vintage that seems to have favored Criots very well. 93/100' Allen Meadows, Burghound, 2006
