A bottle of 1988 Château Palmer from the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, a 52 hectare 'third growth' with plantings of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot. Palmer is widely accepted as the finest producer in the commune after Château Margaux itself.
'Mid ruby with a pale rim. Very pretty, evolved, only slightly leafy nose. Very dry finish – still lots of acidity. Nose is much more beguiling than the slightly skinny, tart palate. Fresh finish does not linger but it is minty mouthwash fresh.' 17/20 Jancis Robinson, October 2011.
