A bottle of 1964 Hardy's St Thomas Burgundy from the Maclaren Vale vineyard in the Hunter River Valley, south Australia.
Many wine-producing countries outside Europe — including Australia, the U.S., and South Africa — used European regional names (like Burgundy, Claret, Champagne, Port, and Sherry) as generic style names rather than protected geographic terms. In the 1980s Australia signed agreements with the European Union that phased out the use of these European place names.

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
