This lot contains a complete Sikes's Hydrometer set, Farrow & Jackson Ltd London & Paris, and a Spirt Manual book. We estimate this was produced in the late 19th century,
Bartholomew Sikes (died 1803) was an officer in the employ of HM Excise who in the late 18th century who perfected this device by which the alcoholic content of a liquid could be measured by ascertaining the specific gravity of a liquid.
The set contains a hydrometer, set of weights and thermometer.
The book is dated 1891.
