Description

A rare flagon of Imperial Royal Navy Rum.

As you may be aware, it has long been Naval tradition to reward sailors with a 'tot' of rum for either acts of heroics or on special occasions such as Christmas Day and the Queens Birthday.

In 1971, this tradition was stopped and rum was only issued for medical purposes. This left a surplus of rum within the Service.

The rum itself is of 1950s vintage and of varying proof although it was issued at 95.5% proof and is estimated to be at least 56% alcohol by volume.

This Flagon of Imperial Royal Navy Rum sold at our online auction for £625
