A bottle of Taylor's 1983 Vintage Port, bottled in 1985. This was shipped by Taylor Fladgate & Yeatman and imported into the U.K. by Deinhard & Co. Ltd.
'The 1983....is in a pretty good place now. It's been as hard as nails over the years. Not anymore. With softened tannins and a medley of old Port flavors on the finish, this is both sensual and delicious, with velvety texture and an irresistible finish. It doesn't have that hard edge any more, but it does wake up and become more intense with some air. At least from this bottle, it comes together rather promptly and drinks well. It's lacking just a bit of firmness, but its complex flavors and general demeanor make it rather sexy. The lingering finish seals the deal.' 94/100 Mark Squires, Wine Advocate
This lot comes from the cellar of our Whisky Exchange colleague; author, wine educator and fortified wine authority, the late Godfrey Spence.
Please see images for fill level and label condition. Note general wear. This appears to have a good fill level and weighs approximately 1.35 kg.
The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
