A bottle of 1940 Manuel De Sousa Boal Madeira, matured in oak casks and bottled in 1978 from a batch of 13,500 litres. This is bottle 00667 of 20,769 produced.
Boal (or Bual) is a high acid, early-maturing grape variety which performs best on the lower slopes of the south side of the island of Madeira. With its green apple, spice and coffee characters and sweetness of around 80 to 100 grams per litre of residual sugar, it can be incredibly long-lived.
Please note there is no size or ABV stated on the label.
Please see images for fill level and label condition. Please note damage to the closure. This bottle has a short cork and a wax seal. Please note, we cannot guarantee this will not deteriorate, crack, or leak if shipped, and it is shipped entirely at the buyer's own risk.
The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
