A bottle of 2003 Château Pétrus from Pomerol in Bordeaux.
'The 2003 Petrus was born in a difficult vintage for Pomerol, although its blue clay a.k.a 'smectite' soils probably gave Christian Moueix and Jean-Claude Berrouet a slight advantage given its propensity to retain moisture and prevent hydric stress. … After a timid opening it settles down with attractive mulberry, wild strawberry and clove scents, quite rich but not overpowering. I would argue that it is not as detailed as other vintages. The palate is very well balanced and surprisingly well defined considering the heat of that summer. Rich and opulent for Petrus (maybe the most opulent that Jean-Claude Berrouet ever made) and yet it retains a sense of symmetry and freshness on the finish that I think is unique to this Pomerol. Who says there is no such thing as terroir? 92/100' Neal Martin, Vinous, 2018

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
