A bottle of 1989 Château Rieussec 1er Cru from Sauternes.
The estate is currently owned by Domaines Baron de Rothschild, and the vineyards, planted with 95% Sémillon, 3% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle, border those of Château D’Yquem to the west.
'(The 1989) seem to be a synthesis in style between the more delicate, elegant, nuanced, almost restrained 1988 and the muscular blockbuster 1990. This is no wimpish wine, however. The medium-deep-gold colour is not quite as intense as the 1990, but certainly darker than the 1988. The big, smoky earthy nose offers up notes of crème brulée, honeysuckle, ripe pineapples, and other tropical fruits. The wine is quite full-bodied, with low acidity, very sweet, and luxuriously rich, with a viscous texture and a huge, concentrated finish. This wine seems to continue to put on weight and become even more impressive, much like the 1990. Anticipated maturity: now-2025. 93/100' Robert Parker, Bordeaux, 2003

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
