A bottle of Centenary Solera 1845 Bual Madeira shipped by Cossart, Gordon & Co. Ltd.
Boal (or Bual) is a high acid, early-maturing grape variety which performs best on the lower slopes of the south side of the island of Madeira. With its green apple, spice and coffee characters and sweetness of around 80 to 100 grams per litre of residual sugar, it can be incredibly long-lived.
'Coffee-colored and cloudy, with a greenish rim, this has singed rubber and coffee aromas, with chocolate and molasses flavors accented by a lime note. Complex, rich and aggressive, with tangy balancing acidity, finishing on a bitter chocolate note. 92 points' Wine Spectator, April 1999

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
