A bottle of Reserve Malmsey Finest Old Madeira bottled by Berry Bro's & Rudd in 1959.
Please note there is no size or ABV stated on the label, but this appears to be 75cl bottle.
The Malmsey grape is predominantly harvested from the warmer, lower-lying regions of the island of Madeira along the south coast, and is the sweetest of the four nob;e varieties, with sugar levels north of 100 grams per litre. A traditional accompaniment to strong flavours like chocolate and coffee or cigars - English myth holds it that George Plantagenet, 1st Duke of Clarence, brother of King Edward IV of England, was drowned in a butt of Malmsey following his conviction for treason.
Please see images for fill level and label condition. Note general wear.
The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
