Description

A bottle of 1947 Château Mouton Rothschild from Bordeaux's Pauillac appellation with the label artwork created by poet, dramatist artist and designer Jean Cocteau (1889-1963). This was bottled for French wine merchant Nicolas.

'I have never had anything but extraordinary, decadent, fabulously rich, concentrated bottles of the 1947 Mouton-Rothschild. The exotic, ostentatious bouquet of ginger, mint, coffee, cedar, and gobs of cassis fruit is followed by a syrupy, viscously-textured, thick, juicy Mouton that is bursting with fruit. Although drinkable since I first tasted it over a decade ago, it exhibits no signs of fruit loss or color deterioration. It is one of the most exotic and opulent Mouton-Rothschilds I have ever tasted. 98/100' 98 Robert M Parker Jnr., Wine Advocate, 1997

Condition

Please see images for fill level and label condition. Note damage to the label, which is loosely attached to the bottle and fragile. This may become further damaged if shipped, and is shipped entirely at the buyer's own risk - we recommend this lot for collection only.

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.

This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
