A 72cl bottle of 1971 Borgogno Barolo Riserva, produced and bottled by Giacomo Borgogno & Figli.
Barolo is a red Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) wine produced in the northern Italian region of Piedmont. Made from the Nebbiolo grape variety, it is regarded as one of Italy's greatest wines, and is characterised by its rich tannic structure, rust-red colouration and 'tar and roses' aromas.
Barolo is required by law to be aged for at least 38 months after the harvest prior to release, of which at least 18 months must be in wood. To gain the classification of Riserva the minimum ageing period prior to release is five years.
Please see images for fill level and label condition. Note damage to the labels. This has leaked in the past but is not currently leaking. Due to the fragility of the cork we recommend this for collection only, and it is shipped entirely at the buyer's own risk.
The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
